Linear Obsessional A label for experimental and Improvised Music
Linear Obsessional is a label for limited edition physical CDs, and unlimited free/name-your-price digital recordings of experimental and improvised music, and sounds that fall between the cracks by musicians from around the globe.
Most of the music is published under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. What this mouthful means is that the music presented here is free to download, and you are welcome (indeed encouraged) to share it, and use it how you wish, as long as full credit is given to the creators. There are a few exceptions, where the artist has specified a different licence (please check!), and the occasional "physical only" release.
Linear Obsessional is put together by Richard Sanderson, an improvising musician based in South London. After many years of promoting live experimental music concerts, Linear Obsessional presents him with an opportunity to continue to share the music of exceptional musicians and artists, from the comfort of his armchair. For further information please see the "about" page.
"Air Buttons"is the follow up to 2011's "Improvisations For Melodeon". It consists of pieces for melodeon (diatonic button accordion) and electronics, with some field recordings and contact- mic'ed objects thrown in,recorded between 2011 and 2013. 11 tracks of obscurantist sounds - available as a limited edition of 50 CDRs with inserts and a "Name Your Price" download with PDF booklet of notes and illustrations.
The first release in Linear Obsessional's "RetroLinear" series is an EP by the post punk band Tick Tick. Recorded at Guardian Studios in County Durham in June 1980, "My Swelling Heart" was intended to be released as a follow up to the band's 12" EP "The Immortalisation of Tick Tick" by the expanded, more dynamic version of the band, but never got out of the can. Remastered from the original recordings "My Swelling Heart" reveals a band confidently pushing into new areas - including elements of funk, dub and world music, with startling philosophical lyrics and all underpinned by a beautifully recorded new rhythm section. Tick Tick was - Geoff Spence - vocals, Gary Widdowfield - Guitar/Clarinet, Richard Sanderson - Guitar, Ste Weatherall - Bass and Paul Fowler - Drums. The sessions were produced by Pete Farrell and Tick Tick. "My Swelling Heart" is released as a limited 5 track 3" EP with inserts and photos, and as a "pay what you want" download with 15 page PDF booklet of detailed notes and photographs. The next releases will be two 3" EPs - one by the Whitby based sound artist Chris Whitehead (who previously recorded "South Gare" for Linear Obsessional- LOR018) the other by saxophonist and sound artist Mark Browne (who previously recorded "Malapert and Erratic" for Linear Obsessional)
